3 reasons your metabolism sucks
So, before we begin, let's talk about something... I hear all too often "oh, I just have a slow metabolism" or doing this or that will "speed up" your metabolism, or even "if I do this juice cleanse it'll speed up my metabolism"... WRONG.
History lesson: when we are young, what do we do? Most of us eat everything in sight. We are mostly active in sports or some type of physical activity or club. We do this all the way up until we leave mama and daddy's house, since after that point, food isn't free. Then when we get to college or when we start working a job, "eating" becomes something we either "don't have time" for, or something we only do when we eat entire bags of Doritos, Cheetos, or powdered donuts. Then one day, we realize we've gained a few pounds, and we start eating nothing to try to lose weight even more (since, ya know, thats what society tells you to do, and I mean, it makes sense right?). Then we start diet hopping and losing a couple pounds here and there and jump on and off the wagon our whole life..... WHAT I JUST EXPLAINED IS THE MAJORITY OF PEOPLE IN THE U.S. ...IT MAY EVEN BE YOU....
So, our metabolism works off what you give it... If you give it 2,000 calories, it will learn to burn 2,000 calories over time. The problem with that little history lesson I just shared is..... you used to eat so much and still stay so lean, but then, feeding yourself and exercising became something that wasn't a priority. So you might have went from eating 2,000 to 500 calories a day. Not feeding yourself, not fueling your body. Over time, that is what is slowing your metabolism. If one day you splurge and eat a whole bunch of ice cream, of course you'll gain some weight, you're giving your body more calories than it knows what to do with! ANYWAYS, here's the 4 reasons!
1. You're not moving 🏃🏻♂️
Did you know, for most of us, you burn 3/4 of your calories throughout the day when you're NOT working out! But, you won't park too far away from the entrance of Walmart because you don't wanna walk that extra little distance...
2. You don't have muscle 💪🏼
Muscle is the gasoline to the metabolisms fire. The more muscle you have, the more calories you burn trying to sustain that muscle. So, stop using the pink weights.
3. You blame genetics 👫
"I have a slow metabolism" no, your metabolism is slow. Metabolism isn't a set value. It fluctuates based on muscle, activity, and food intake. You can up it just by changing how you live.
MORAL OF THE STORY: If you want to boost your metabolism, feed your body and move. Give it enough protein, carbs, and fats. Stop depriving your body and it will BURN more fat. Feed yourself.
